Steffen Muller made his first pipe in 2009 from black walnut. During that year four other pipes followed. In the beginning of 2010 he bought an old lathe and began making pipes seriously. Shortly after that he sold his first pipe and has been selling everything he makes. His pipe making up to then was completely self thought having only some tutorials on the internet and some guidance from other pipe makers he corresponded with in German pipe forums. A very important to mentor is Roger Wallenstein, good hints and helpful critique also came from Frank Axmacher and others. In the late summer of 2010 I traveled to South Tirolia to work with Bertram Safferling, who is a great teacher. Roger joined us during that week. Roger taught him his unique Driftwood Finish and allowed only Steffen to use it exclusively. He has been invited by Tom Eltang and Love Geiger, and will be spending time with them shortly. He is very excited about the invitations, as he is a great admirer of their work. |
All stems are hand made from Vulcanite, Cumberland or amber. To own a Steffen Muller pipe is to is to acquire a pipe of the finest German craftsmanship. Every pipe below is made from Corsican briar that has been aged for a minimum of 30 years. |
